Known ("the App") is a personal devotional journaling app operated by Treehouse Properties LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"). Your privacy matters deeply to us.
When you create an account, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name and profile information (life stage, faith background, etc.) to personalize your devotionals. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive limited identity information from those providers.
Your journal entries, devotionals, and preferences are stored locally on your device. If you create an account, this data is also synced to our cloud service (Supabase) so you can access it across devices.
You can use Known without creating an account. Guest data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to any server. Guest users receive up to 3 free devotionals.
When you write a journal entry, the text is sent to OpenAI's API to generate a personalized devotional reflection and devotional artwork. OpenAI does not store API input data beyond the duration of the request (per their API data usage policy). Your journal text is sent only when you tap "Generate" and is not shared for any other purpose.
If you use the audio feature, your devotional text is sent to ElevenLabs for text-to-speech conversion. ElevenLabs processes the text in real time and does not retain it.
Subscription purchases are processed through Apple's App Store and managed by RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your anonymous app user ID and purchase history to manage entitlements. RevenueCat does not receive your journal entries or personal content. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
For signed-in users, we use Supabase to store account data, journal entries, and devotionals. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your data is accessible only to you via your authenticated account. We use row-level security to ensure no user can access another user's data.
On our website, we collect privacy-safe marketing analytics such as page views, download button clicks, referring page, campaign parameters, browser/device basics, and advertising click IDs (for example, fbclid or gclid when present). We use this to understand whether marketing is helping people discover and download Known.
We do not include journal entries, devotional text, prayer content, or private account content in marketing analytics. Marketing event data is stored in Supabase with restricted access.
If you enable daily reminders or devotional-ready notifications, the app uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs). Notification tokens are stored securely and used only to deliver your requested notifications.
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings within the app. This permanently removes your journal entries, devotionals, and profile information from our servers. Local data is removed when you delete the app.
Known is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
